On our 9 hour trip from Oregon to Redding, CA (in the middle of the night) there was no heat in our car. We asked the conductor about the heat who told us she forgot to turn it on. A few hours later we inquired again and were told the heater was broken and they were trying to fix it. We asked for blankets (we are disabled senior citizens) and were told Amtrak did not offer blankets but we could purchase one the train. On our return trip, our train hit and killed someone outside of Chico, CA. Our train was six and half hours late. We sat at the train depot from 2:30 am freezing to death. There were no facilities open at the train depot in Redding, CA. There were no bathrooms. People were relieving themselves in the bushes. We could not get any information that was accurate from online or customer service. They kept telling us that the train would be there within the next hour to two hours and we should not leave the depot or risk missing our train. We only found out what happened because one of the passengers daughters worked at a TV station in Chico and she called her mother to tell her about the incident. When we got on the train we weren't even offered a hot beverage to warm us up. We requested assistance with our baggage when we got to our destination because they were in a hurry to get us off the train. We were assured we would have assistance. We did not. Instead, the baggage area was crammed full of passengers getting off for a smoke break and we were unable to get to our luggage and exit without a great deal of hassle. We were rushed off the train. This does not even begin to cover all the problems we had on our return trip which was a nightmare!
