Please note, before today I would have given USAA 4 stars, never again.
My son turned 18 earlier this year and that started the trouble. Apparently he wasn't suppose to have access to his Junior Savings account, they took it away and only I had access to it. That's not right, it's his account and he had just turned 18 anyway. I closed the account with him on the phone and had the money transferred to his checking account. He had them open up a new savings account and use $25 from checking to do it with, I wasn't on this one but I know him, he would put most his money into savings. We also ordered him checks for checking and told the person we had on the phone to just put his name on the checks as he was going to be going to be going to boot camp shortly and it wouldn't look right to have my name on the checks also. Well, they took care of the checks OK but they didn't open the savings account. He told me about it and I double checked his checking and sure enough, no money taken out to open savings with. And now we don't have time to do anything about it because he is shipping out, he had already been serving all summer and had his checks direct deposited into checking. So he's gone now into basic, then he will be off to Advanced Training and USAA shut down his Checking Account. They claim it is because he didn't fill out some paperwork for the patriot act that all banks are required to have! True or False, I don't know, I don't care, they knew he was leaving for boot camp. NO EXCUSE IS ACCEPTABLE! All they had to do is say something when they had him on the phone but instead, they waited till he can not access his email or phone to contact him and then punish him because of it. He is now in boot camp, then probably headed to be an officer and USED TO HAVE USAA as his bank. He has no accounts their now so I don't know if he will sign back up with them or not. I would count on him being a great reference for the bank.
